[Railroad Economics Newspaper=Gong Min-jae trainee reporter] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) completed the work using 'Wireless Car Arrangement' technology at Jecheon Station's yard on the afternoon of the 31st. This is the first time that this system has been applied to clean up vehicles.

KORAIL announced that it introduced a wireless vehicle management system to prevent safety accidents caused by communication errors between the driver and the transport operator during vehicle management and began operation at the Jecheon Yard on the afternoon of the 31st.

The wireless vehicle management system is a technology in which a transporter uses a user control device to remotely move a locomotive without an engineer.

On the day when the wireless vehicle cleanup was carried out, about 10 people from the logistics field, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, observed the work process, such as the work flow of the convoy and the control status of the locomotive.

In the future, Jecheon Yard Station will automatically connect, separate, and 200-car freight trains on average 25 times a day.

KORAIL said, “In order to establish the wireless vehicle management system, the driving work regulations were revised before introduction, and safety regulations and operating systems were established by conducting risk assessments”, “Plans to further enhance work safety through monthly safety inspections and quarterly joint inspections” he said.

In addition, he said, “In order to secure safety and professionalism in handling radio control equipment, train driver license holders will be hired and trainees will be trained to add 144 transport workers dedicated to radio control at freight handling stations nationwide”, “We plan to expand the introduction of the system to 8 stations and 10 stations nationwide by next year” he added.

Kim Jin-tae, head of the Logistics Business Division, said, “The introduction of the wireless vehicle management system is one step closer to zero field accidents, and we will make efforts to enable safer field work through continuous inspection and supplementation.”
